分析師表示：“本周的通脹數據的確暗示，升息有可能加速，但在昨日的美聯儲會議之後，這種可能性似乎下降了。因此，我們看到投資者正在買進黃金等資產。”
美聯儲週三(5月2日)維持利率不變，並表達了對近期通脹攀升，接近聯儲2%目標的勢頭將會持續的信心，表明聯儲在6月升息的軌道上。
投資者還在等待美中貿易談判結果。美國財政部長努欽率美方代表團於週四至週五(5月4日)訪華。中國國務院副總理劉鶴將與美方代表團就共同關心的中美經貿問題交換意見。
分析師補充說：“最近缺乏避險買盤，但過去幾天的一些訊號顯示談判可能不會像預期的那樣順利，所以這可能會是個關注焦點，特別是在美聯儲會議已經結束的情況下。”
外界認為談判後簽訂突破性協議、令中國經濟政策發生根本性轉變的可能微乎其微，不過若中國同意採取一些短期措施，則可能讓美國推遲作出加征關稅的決定。
世界黃金協會週四表示，黃金需求創下10年來最疲弱的開局，因金屬價格停滯不前，加上利率上升的威脅，促使投資者在其他地方尋求更好的回報。
