在美國大選前數周，金價一直處於窄幅波動區間，在投票結束後，金價似乎將立即向上突破。隨後，輝瑞公司在11月9日宣佈其Covid-19疫苗預防該病的有效性為95%，引發了風險資產的輪換，從而推低了黃金價格。
金價在突破技術性支撐位後快速下挫，這表明看漲的金條交易正在進一步展開，與近幾周交易所交易基金的投資流出一致。對貴金屬的投資偏好明顯受挫，這表明在疫苗宣佈的催化下，避險資金流出現逆轉。
隨著政治不確定性的緩解，金價面臨著額外的壓力。在數周的無所作為之後，美國總務管理局承認拜登是美國總統大選的明顯贏家，美國總統特朗普呼籲他的機構和部門合作。
不過，一些市場觀察人士仍對黃金的長期前景持樂觀態度。知情人士說，拜登計畫提名前美聯儲主席耶倫擔任他的財政部長。分析師表示，這將提振未來財政刺激的前景，加上長期的低利率，將為黃金提供一個支撐環境。他在一份報告中寫道：“在目前的連續下挫後，黃金應該重新開始攀升，即使這可能還需要一段時間，而且很可能會從一個較低的水準開始上升。”
