早在9月29日时，美国总统特朗普就曾向公众承诺，会在“未来两到三周内”宣布美联储新主席人选，在此之后，大家都一直翘首以待。而本周五(10月29日)则是特朗普所承诺的“最多三周”期限的最后一天，大家对美联储新主席人选出炉的预期也已经上升到了顶点。
据报导，有三名匿名的白宫官员透露，美国总统特朗普正倾向于提名美联储现任理事鲍威尔(Jerome Powell)作为下一任美联储主席。这三名白宫官员还表示，特朗普周四(10月19日)与现任美联储主席耶伦会晤了大约半个小时，但还并没有做出任何决定。尽管如此，考虑到周五是特朗普所设定的三周考察期期限的最后一天，他老人家很有可能便会在此后正式发布消息。于是，美元空头便提前做好了布局恭迎此消息。
而这也意味着继耶伦之后，新一任的美联储主席仍将是来自美联储管理者阶层内部的“体制内”人士，这似乎有些不太符合特朗普一贯的用人风格。而反过来理解，可以解读为特朗普在货币政策领域仍希望延续当前路径，确保“稳”字当头，至少不希望因国美联储新掌门太过激进的政策行动令白宫在实施医改、税改和金元外交的过程中平添纷乱。在这种情况下，来自美联储内部的“老好人”鲍威尔接替主席一职，或是名至实归。
而鲍威尔一旦果真接任美联储主席，最大的可能也便是沿着耶伦在任内最后一年所制定的既定“政策正常化”路径萧规曹随，美联储继续缩表加息仍是在所难免，只是力度不会如此前的大热门——“鹰派教父”沃尔什(Kevin Warsh)那样激进。所以，在美联储新主席人选尘埃落定之后，行情就有望重回正轨，而全球地缘局势风波可能再唱主角。
