在5月19日中，現貨黃金有所走高，美聯儲主席鮑威爾稱美聯儲已經準備好一系列的措施來支撐美國經濟的運行，同時對於疫情疫苗研發的樂觀情緒逐漸消退，對金價造成了一定的提升。
鮑威爾週二對美國參議院銀行業委員會表示：“我們需要做好採取進一步行動的準備，我可以說我們已經準備好了，只要有需求就會行動。”分析師指出：“鮑威爾暗示：到月底時所有緊急貸款項目都將準備就緒，美聯儲和國會可能都需要向經濟注入更多資金。美聯儲“向經濟提供刺激措施的過程遠未結束，金價的漲勢也是如此。”
黃金的基本面從未像現在這樣好。除非我們看到有關疫苗的更多樂觀消息，否則我們將開始看到向新高攀升的上升動能。任何有關企業復工複產遇挫的消息，最終都將推高金價。
全球為限制新冠病毒帶來的經濟損失而出臺的大規模刺激措施支撐了黃金，因為黃金被普遍視為對沖通脹和貨幣貶值的工具。與此同時，對國際貿易關係進一步惡化的擔憂也推動了對避險資產的需求。

為了應對疫情，美聯儲開啟了極為寬鬆的貨幣政策，推動了金價的大幅上漲。央行能印鈔，但無法印黃金。在大量流動性被注入市場後，貨幣無疑將貶值。黃金是央行唯一一個不能大規模印出來的東西，也是唯一一個在危機中能夠穩定的資產。在越來越多貨幣出現的情況下，黃金的保值功能自然會越來越凸顯。
