通脹持續疲弱，歐元兌美元短線下跌

1月21日，歐洲央行行長拉加德表示經濟下行風險減輕，但通脹仍將持續疲軟，在消息公佈後，歐元兌美元短線下挫後出現反彈。同時歐洲央行新一期決議是維持三大利率不變，並重申PEPP額度不一定要全額使用。
拉加德稱，消費者仍舊謹慎，通脹率仍然很低，潛在的通脹壓力已經減弱。她認為通脹將持續疲軟，但通脹在未來幾個月將會上升，一旦疫情消退，中期通脹的上行壓力就會加大。歐銀將密切關注匯率的發展。
拉加德稱，經濟發展不平衡，歐元區經濟在第四季度出現收縮。2021年一季度經濟活動受疫情抑制。下行風險有所減輕，但不能排除出現進一步的不利發展。
拉加德稱，接種計畫是重要里程碑，疫苗的推出讓人們更有信心。但疫情仍然對經濟構成嚴重風險，新的封鎖措施擾亂了經濟活動，達到廣泛免疫需要時間。
歐元區12月消費者物價調和指數(HICP)同比下滑0.3%，並有望在1月重演。這遠遠低於通脹目標，以至於這個目標變得毫無意義，而自12月歐央行推出諸多刺激措施後歐元已升值1%，這給已經下跌的物價帶來了更大壓力。
不過畢竟一些不確定性因素已經得到排除，包括新冠疫苗開始廣泛接種，英歐之間達成貿易協定，美國新總統拜登正式上臺執政。儘管義大利等少數國家政局出現新的不穩定，但總體而言歐元區股市上漲，市場利率穩定，政府借貸成本呈現下降趨勢。
而且歐洲央行重申，不一定全額使用規模達到1.85萬億的抗疫緊急購債計畫(PEPP)，歐洲央行保持較低水準的借貸成本依然存在空間。大多數經濟部門在去年夏天重啟後，經濟活動反彈速度超出預期，這表明企業韌性沒有市場預料的那麼差。
德國伊福經濟研究所(Ifo)預測，第二季度德國經濟將增長3%。政府為遏制冠狀病毒傳播而延長封鎖時間，將給這個歐洲最大的經濟體帶來壓力，但不會扼殺增長。
德國總理默克爾的幕僚長Helge Braun週四向ARD電視臺表示，如果鄰國不採取行動控制疫情，則可能關閉與鄰國間的邊境；他稱必須控制傳染速度，各國才能夠保護自己免受傳染力更強的新病毒株感染。
