美國當選總統拜登將於北京時間週四(1月21日)1:00開啟就職典禮。由於新冠疫情及1月6日國會大廈暴動事件後的安全考量，在華府的就職典禮規模縮水，不復以往的盛大熱鬧景象。
政府當局已警告美國各地可能有武裝示威，這或許會冷卻市場的樂觀情緒，但市場對於國會大廈遭衝擊事件的平淡反應暗示，如果今天有任何動亂，包括黃金在內的多數資產或許只會受到輕微影響。
拜登誓言要動員聯邦政府的全部力量來應對這場危機，包括實施更強有力的檢測和追蹤計畫，以及大規模的疫苗接種。他的首要任務是增加失業救濟，並向家庭直接發放現金支票。
美國當選總統拜登提名的美國財政部長耶倫週二敦促議員們在新冠救助支出上“採取大規模行動”，稱經濟利益遠遠超過債務負擔加重的風險。並強調，最終需要提高對企業和富人的徵稅，從而幫助支應拜登投資基礎設施、研發和工人培訓以提高美國經濟競爭力的宏偉計畫。
耶倫說，疫情救助優先於加稅，但她稱受益於2017年共和黨減稅政策的企業和富人“需要支付其公平的份額”。當她說財政部將考慮通過“按市值計價”機制對未實現的資本收益徵稅的可能性、以及其他增加財政收入的方法時，令一些參議員和華爾街人士感到意外。
耶倫稱，其他國家為獲得商業優勢而設定匯率目標是不可接受的，“我相信由市場決定的匯率。美國並沒有尋求讓美元貶值以獲得競爭優勢，我們應該反對其他國家這樣做的企圖，為了獲得商業優勢而故意設定匯率目標是不可接受的。”
美國新冠病毒死亡人數超過40萬人。密歇根州，新澤西州、紐約州、俄勒岡州、南卡羅來納州和佛蒙特州已出現疫苗供應吃緊的跡象，要求增加輝瑞-BioNTech和Moderna這兩種已批准疫苗的供應。
由於疫苗供應不足，接種進程不盡如人意，疫情擴散風險尚未得到有效遏制。在抗疫形勢持續不確定性的當下，投資者選擇擁抱黃金等傳統避險資產。
