6月11日，現貨黃金在創下今日高位後出現大幅回落，一方面市多頭需要調整過快的漲幅，，另一方面美聯儲發表了悲觀的經濟展望，聯邦基金利率未來幾年維持在0附近，同時美國新增感染病率增多，市場對經濟情況感到不安，急需套取現金來彌補損失。
美聯儲週三(6月10日)重申將繼續為經濟提供非常規支持的承諾，同時政策制定者預計今年國內生產總值(GDP)將萎縮6.5%，年底失業率將達到9.3%。美聯儲主席鮑威爾在視頻連線中表示：“這(經濟復蘇)是一條漫長的路，我們甚至都沒有想考慮加息。”
鮑威爾或美聯儲政策聲明都沒有暗示，其大規模注入流動性的舉措很快將會淡出，聲明承諾將至少以當前速度繼續購買債券。聯儲官員也強調，有必要維持利率于近零水準至少到2022年結束。
在新冠大流行爆發後的首次經濟預測中，美聯儲政策制定者表達了擔憂：為對抗這場公共衛生危機而採取的封鎖和限制等措施將在未來幾年繼續影響經濟，而不會隨著企業復工複產而迅速消失。
儘管5月就業資料意外好轉，但失業率仍保持在13.3%，為二戰後的高位水準。非裔和亞裔的失業率仍在上升，預計要恢復到疫情前的水準還需要數年時間。2月份開始，美國經濟因冠狀病毒大流行而迅速陷入衰退，目前已有2000多萬美國人失業。
美聯儲現在的重點是：繼續全面致力於超寬鬆貨幣政策，幫助數以千萬計的失業者重新找到工作。美元已經開始週期性下行，這有利於塑造對黃金更友好的市場氛圍。
在全美範圍內，新增感染病例在下降了五周後略有上升，其中只有一部分是由於檢測增加。美聯儲主席鮑威爾早在4月份的時候就對未來數月第二波和第三波新冠疫情的可能性提出警告。
美國財長努欽週三表示，美國經濟已經開始從新冠大流行中反彈，並將在第三和第四季”大幅改善”。他說，新出爐的就業和其他經濟資料“表明，我們已經做好準備，可以分階段大舉重新開放我們的國家。”
白宮國家經濟委員會主任庫德洛週三表示，美國經濟似乎已經出現了拐點。他指出，最近股市上漲，以及出現一系列他認為是經濟復蘇萌芽的指標。他還表示，下一個疫情救助議案將為重返工作崗位的工人提供某種形式的稅務減免。
