美國總統特朗普週四(5月21日)表示，美聯儲和財政部的武器庫中仍有“彈藥”，可以給因新冠病毒大流行遭受重創的美國經濟提供幫助，儘管他懷疑是否有必要祭出新的舉措。特朗普告訴記者：“如果我們需要，火力無限，但我們不需要。”
美國財長努欽週四表示，他認為美國經濟將在二季度觸底，並在三季度開始改善，四季度經濟活動將出現巨大增長，“當經濟從停擺狀態的低水準回升時，就會出現非常、非常大的增長。所以，我認為你們將會在四季度看到一個非常大的——可以稱之為巨大的——增長。”
美聯儲副主席克拉裡達週四表示，聯儲迄今採取的行動通過放鬆金融環境為美國經濟贏得了時間，不過，如果新冠病毒大流行和相關低迷持續下去，聯儲的努力可能會受到威脅。
美國失業保險金請領人數3月中開始創下紀錄升幅，目前已累計超過了3860萬。紐約聯儲主席威廉姆斯週四稱，4月失業率飆升至14.7%，但可以肯定該資料會進一步惡化，然後才會好轉。
新冠疫情重創經濟造成企業裁員，4月失業金給付增至至少162億美元，是2月的五倍多。這個數字還是初值，美國勞工部網站上尚沒有佛羅里達州和密西根州等六個州的4月給付數據。
儘管金融市場此前史無前例地押注，美聯儲明年年初存在微弱可能性將利率下調至低於零的水準，但美聯儲官員結合美國經濟的運行情況多次給出了否定觀點，也增強了投資者對美元的信心。
