貿易戰刺激失效，盼望美俄互懟帶來黃金生機
8月9日，現貨黃金價格圍繞在平盤價附近整理，價格重心有所上升，但美元強勢仍抑制黃金上漲動力。雖然全球貿易紛爭下，持續利空金價，但是美國對俄羅斯的新制裁會稍微緩解金價下行壓力。
交易員預計週四的主要事件將是美日兩國首腦在華盛頓的會談，日本將試圖避免其汽車出口被征重稅，並抵擋美國對簽訂雙邊自由貿易協定的要求。
外界揣測，匯率貶值也可能是週四協商的另一個議題，因特朗普不顧美國總統向來避免公開干預金融市場的傳統，已經對多個國家刻意壓低匯率提出關切。
分析師說：“過去三個月美元升幅已達6-7%，但現在漲幅正在趨平，顯示出投資者已在抗拒繼續推高美元，我們並不是說美元已就此觸頂，它可能還有一些升值力道，但在我們進入今年尾聲時，美元將開始再度下滑。”
美日矛盾在全球貿易紛爭中不是主角，儘管美日貿易談判將受到關注，尤其是如何討論汽車關稅，不過市場關注焦點仍在中美貿易問題上，美元高位運行的態勢一時間難以改變。
美國貿易代表辦公室週二表示，美國將於本月稍晚對另外160億美元中國商品加征25%關稅；中國商務部週三稱，中方將對160億美元自美國進口的商品加征25%關稅，涵蓋油品、鋼鐵產品、汽車和醫療設備等。雙方之間的貿易爭端再度升級。這顯然又增加了美元需求前景。
歐洲央行在一份評估報告中稱：“全球經濟面臨的下行風險已經加劇，因美國在貿易關稅方面採取越來越多的措施和威脅，而受此影響的國家可能會實施報復。”這份評估的基調大致與7月26日的政策聲明一致。
美國政府週三表示，將在8月底前對俄羅斯實施新制裁，因其認定莫斯科方面使用一種神經毒劑對付一名身處英國的前俄羅斯間諜及其女。美國一名國務院高級官員稱，已在當日稍早就此事通知克里姆林宮。
在美國中期選舉腳步聲逼近、政府可能於年底停擺的政治顧慮下，美元可能難以再續強勢；同時地緣局勢風險，連同前途未蔔的國際貿易摩擦風險，也會重新誘發黃金避險買需。
除非俄羅斯就不再使用化武，並允許聯合國或其他國際觀察機構進行現場檢查做出可靠保證。該官員說：“如果達不到那些標準，第二輪制裁就將實施，這批措施總體來說比第一批更嚴格。”
英國政府發言人對華府的宣佈表示歡迎，並稱：“對在索爾茲伯里街道上公然使用化武做出強烈國際回應，是對俄羅斯發出的明確信號，它的挑釁魯莽行為將不會得到縱容放任。”
