这时候，社会上开始流传一则“美国老太太和中国老太太天堂对话”的故事。美国老太太和中国老太太死后在天堂相遇，并拉起了家常。
美国老太太说，30年前她和老伴儿贷款买了一套房子，她临死前，贷款终于还清了。中国老太太说，30年前她和老伴儿开始攒钱，她临死前，终于买了一套房子，她的儿子、儿媳住进去了。两个老太太在买房的问题上殊途同归，区别在于美国老太太住了一辈子新房，而中国老太太一辈子没住上新房。
