在4月15日晚，加拿大央行宣佈維持當前0.25%的隔夜貸款利率不變，並暫時增加購債的份額，但指出當前恢復的途徑有很多，在資料公佈後，美元兌家園出現激烈的震盪。
加拿大央行決議稱，儘管存在高度的不確定性，但估計顯示，近期經濟下滑看來將是有記錄以來最嚴重的，上半年全球經濟大幅收縮在所難免。

過去一個月，該央行已經先後三次緊急降息，累計降幅達到150個基點，並開啟量化寬鬆計畫，大規模購買政府債券，藉以因應新型冠狀病毒帶來的經濟影響。行長波洛茲此前稱，0.25%為“實質下限”。
加拿大3月份工作崗位創紀錄減少逾101萬個，失業率飆升至7.8%，因冠狀病毒疫情導致非必要商業活動癱瘓。分析師則警告稱，最壞的情況還沒有到來。加拿大經濟主要仰賴出口石油等大宗商品，因此加拿大可能會受到全球經濟萎縮的嚴重衝擊。
國際貨幣基金組織預測，預計2020年全球經濟將萎縮3.0%，這將是1930年代大蕭條以來最嚴重的經濟滑坡。加拿大2020年經濟將下滑6.2%。
加拿大央行決議認為，隨著全球經濟活動和石油消費正常化，油價應會上漲，但鑒於庫存仍將在一段時間內保持高位，預計復蘇將是漸進的。如果運輸需求持續低於疫情危機前的水準，油價可能會保持低位。
加拿大兩家主要銀行首席執行官上周表示，與2008年金融危機相比，冠狀病毒大流行對加拿大經濟的影響將更廣泛，且更具挑戰性，復蘇時間可能比預期的長。
