开放式基金是指基金发起人在设立基金时，基金单位或者股份总规模不固定，可视投资者的需求，随时向投资者出售基金单位或者股份，并可以应投资者的要求赎回发行在外的基金单位或者股份的一种基金运作方式。
一般而言，开放式基金赎回需要两个工作日经过系统确认之后再经过清算才算赎回成功。也就是，一般流程为：T日未报，T+1已报，T+2已成。但不同类型的开放式基金，到账的具体时间不同。
其中，开放式基金根据投资类型可以分为五大类：股票型、债券型、保本型、配置型和货币型。 股票型和债券型基金到账一般需要4天；货币型基金到账最快，一般申请赎回的第二个工作日就可以到账。
现实中，开放式基金对巨额赎回有限制。根据《开放式证券投资基金试用办法》的规定，开放式基金单个开放日中，基金净赎回申请超过基金总份额的10%时，将被视为巨额赎回。当巨额赎回发生时，基金管理人在当日接受赎回比例不低于基金总份额10%的前提下，可以对其余赎回申请延期办理。
