美元在周三（9月16日）亚市早盘持坚，此前乐观的消费者支出数据，令美国公债收益率上升，并且保持美联储或将在本次为期两天的会议中，开始加息的希望不灭。
美国商务部表示，该国的零售销售在8月上升0.4%，7月数据上修为增长0.6%。该数据剔除了汽车、汽油、建筑材料以及食品服务的销售。这项数据抵消了显示出制造业活动疲软的另一份数据的影响。
零售销售数据的上升，促使部分投资者增加美联储将进行2006年以来的首次升息的押注。根据芝加哥商业交易所集团的FedWatch程序，美国利率期货暗示，市场预计周四升息的机率为27%，高于周一稍晚的23%。
美元兑日元逆转周二的跌势。日本央行在周二一如预期，决定维持政策稳定之后，日元微升。
美元兑日元报120.32日元，低于隔夜美国市场尾盘价位，但远高于周二低点119.40日元。
欧元兑美元报1.1275美元，从周一所及的三周高点1.1373美元回落。
美元指数虽略低于隔夜美国市场，报95.570，但远高于周一触及的三周低点94.913。
