芝加哥联储主席埃文斯(Charles Evans)周四(11月12日)表示，无论什么时候开始加息，美联储都必须明确，未来的加息路径将是循序渐进的。
埃文斯强调，“我认为至关重要的是，在我们首次加息之时，FOMC也要强烈并有效地传达其未来循序渐进加息的计划。”
在10月28日的会议声明中，FOMC表示如果劳动力市场进一步好转、与会者有合理信心认为通胀率将在中期内升向2%的目标，则12月份的“下一次会议”上会考虑上调基准的联邦基金利率。
美联储自2008年12月份以来一直维持近零利率。作为FOMC最鸽派的成员之一，埃文斯表示自己比一些同僚更加倾向于晚些加息，因为他对通胀率升向2%的目标水平缺乏信心。
今年在FOMC有投票权的埃文斯强调，启动加息之后，加息路径应该比目前FOMC预测暗示的更加循序渐进。FOMC的预测暗示在首次加息之后，明年平均每次会议加息25个基点。
他指出，“鉴于我对经济和风险的评估，无论具体哪天启动加息，我认为联邦基金利率到2016年底维持在1%之下很可能是合适的。”
