1月19日，現貨黃金在關口附近窄幅震盪，由於美元處於承壓，更多刺激措施的出臺前景提振了黃金作為對沖工具的吸引力，同時美國財長提名人耶倫表示，不會壓低本幣匯率來獲取相對優勢。
在美國參議院對財政部長候選人耶倫的提名確認聽證會上，耶倫力陳對當選總統拜登1.9萬億美元的刺激計畫的支持，稱其對美國經濟至關重要。耶倫還表示，美國不會以壓低本幣匯率來獲取相對優勢，並稱若其財長提名得到確認，也將反對其他國家以任何行動來推行這種戰略。
耶倫講話後，現貨黃金反應平淡，在1837-1843美元區間窄幅波動。由於美債收益率上升和經濟復蘇的前景削弱了黃金作為避險資產的吸引力，金價在2020年大漲之後，今年大致處於橫盤波動的狀態。ThinkMarkets的市場分析師Fawad Razaqzada在週二的報告中表示，大多數風險資產在上漲，看起來通貨再膨脹交易在捲土重來，這種樂觀情緒在一定程度上反映了關於政府將加大支出的預期。
有分析指出，耶倫關於美元的講話，意味著美國自克林頓政府以來所奉行，直到被現任總統特朗普實質上拋棄的強美元政策即將回歸；特朗普及其財政部長姆努欽均強調美元貶值的好處，特別是對出口和購買力的有利影響。姆努欽曾表示“美元過強”可能有損經濟。
美國財政部長提名人珍妮特·耶倫可能會更全盤考慮美元政策，改變特朗普政府聚焦貿易的政策思路。耶倫“認識到美元的大幅波動可能會產生重大的金融影響（例如對美元債務持有人的影響），這通常比直接貿易影響要大得多”，這將使耶倫更加“謹言”。
