5月22日，由於地緣政治的緊張局勢對避險情緒起到了升溫作用，市場對病毒流行之下的全球經濟復蘇緩慢感到十分擔憂，黃金等避險產品受到明顯追捧，現貨黃金出現巨大漲幅。
地緣政治關係緊張化令避險情緒高漲，黃金、國債與日元等傳統避風港資產受到追捧;但分析師指出，隨著多國與美國各州重新開放因冠狀病毒疫情而凍結的經濟，以及疫苗研發的希望漸增，本周黃金期貨價格仍然錄得跌幅。
地緣政治緊張局勢再次升溫，美國軍艦和伊朗前往委內瑞拉的貨船之間可能發生對抗是進入長週末前的關鍵問題，這促使投資者買入。
本周現貨黃金價格一度突破1760美元/盎司關口，升至逾七年半高位，不過此後上漲動能有所不足，週四最低回落至1717美元。分析師表示，後市很長一段時間裡，金價可能都將處在巨大波動的狀態中，對黃金看漲，金價還有上行空間，短期看向1750上方，下個季度可能將漲向1800甚至1900水準；在目前這種貨幣政策極為寬鬆的狀態下，黃金作為避險保值資產成為了很多投資者的選擇。
今年金價將很難觸及2000美元大關；突破並創下歷史是很大的事情，1900關口對技術交易員而言，將是一個阻力水準。在金價突破創下新高之前，會有多次嘗試，而今年餘下時間未必夠。
今年提振金價走高的因素不少，包括巨大的不確定性以及通脹威脅等，這些因素也將繼續支撐黃金市場走高。自2016年起，投資者們就持續應用黃金來對沖各種不確定性，以及極為低迷的利率。近期各國央行會應對疫情而採取的各種措施更是‘火上澆油’。
