美國週三公佈的一份行業報告顯示，3月MARKIT製造業採購經理人指數(PMI)終值為48.5，為2009年以來8月最低，初值為49.2，2月終值為50.7。週三公佈的其他資料顯示，上月民間部門就業崗位出現兩年半來首次下降，導致經濟前景進一步黯淡，因企業被迫關閉以遵守遏制病毒傳播的嚴格措施。
隨著越來越多的證據表明，這場流行病正在將全球經濟推入深度衰退，歐美股市在今年第二季開局就大幅下跌。美聯儲擴大了數十家外國央行在新冠病毒危機期間獲取美元的能力，允許它們將所持美債換成隔夜美元貸款。
當前史無前例的宏觀經濟大背景一直在吸引更多投資者轉向黃金等實貨資產。全球各國央行都在擴張資產負債表，並準備進一步放寬政策，以減輕疫情影響；因此，我們認為實際利率將在一段時間內保持在深度負值區域，這樣的背景仍有利於黃金投資。
供應管理學會製造業指數萎縮幅度小於預期，導致避險需求下降，令金價回落。分析師說，美國ADP和ISM濟資料強於市場預期，引發了黃金交易者的一些獲利回吐，但是，毫無疑問，美國經濟正在走向衰退，購買黃金仍然是一個不錯的選擇。
