鑒於近期強於預期的美國經濟增長數據與疲軟的通脹相互衝突，鮑威爾對這個問題的看法將是關鍵。如果鮑威爾比預期的要溫和，那麼到2019年底，人們對美聯儲可能降息的預期可能會越來越高——人們認為，這將使美元面臨下行風險。
週二美國總統特朗普與民主黨達成共識，將推動一個2萬億美元的基建專案。受此影響，美國股市獲得提振，黃金受此打壓。
此外，歐元區一季度經濟增長表現好於預期，這使得歐元走高，打壓美元。

FOMC將於今日結束為期兩天的美聯儲會議。我們預計利率不會發生變化，但市場預計今年至少會有一次降息。在聯邦公開市場委員會會議召開之際，特朗普週二在推特上表示，美聯儲應該降息100個基點，並採取一些量化寬鬆舉措，不過分析師認為FOMC可能不會理會特朗普的要求。

隨著股票和美元的上漲，黃金價格下跌。美元指數升至98點的高點，為2017年5月以來的最高水準，原因是美國經濟繼續跑贏歐洲。美國企業的強勁業績推動標準普爾500指數升至歷史新高，許多股票市場今年強勁反彈。因此，黃金受到的關注越來越少。
此外，黃金的歷史波動率和30日波動率在過去兩年多時間裏都低於歷史均值，而這時非常不同尋常的。上一次黃金的波動率如此低迷還是在上世紀90年代。
世界黃金協會表示，全球央行黃金儲備持續增加，在2019年，過去兩年內在全球範圍內萌發的各類風險將繼續存在，且有愈演愈烈之勢。
