7月27日，現貨黃金刷新至歷史新高位，美元指數則創下新低，由於國際關係對抗程度加深，美國國內疫情還沒有明顯的放緩跡象，對全球經濟體將造成巨大傷害，同時美國就業市場出現裂痕，美聯儲的財政計畫可能面臨政治僵局。
美聯儲料在本週三(7月29日)結束政策會議後選擇按兵不動。但過去一個月美國經濟前景趨暗，美聯儲可能在會後鞏固市場預期——利率將在較長時間內保持低位。美聯儲已承諾無限制購債。
市場正在尋找其下一步行動的線索。美聯儲似乎並不熱衷於收益率曲線控制或負利率。觀察人士認為，美聯儲最終可能需要擴大量化寬鬆。但美聯儲理事佈雷納德最近提到，美國經濟籠罩著“迷霧”。所以目前而言，美聯儲可能只是等待“迷霧”消散。
債市反映美國復蘇緩慢，美債收益率出現下滑，這降低了美元的吸引力。全球近四分之一的新冠死亡病例在美國，投資者對經濟能否迅速復蘇產生懷疑。
5月和6月就業意外上升，因各州解除了疫情限制措施。這些限制措施導致經濟在3月和4月陷入停滯。但新冠疫情在美國沒有放緩跡象，美國上周初請失業金人數意外增加，就業市場的反彈勢頭也出現裂痕。
因疫情擴散及地緣局勢趨緊，市場整體氣氛偏低落。此外，投資者也開始擔心美國在新一輪財政刺激問題上的政治僵局，部分失業救濟在月底到期前需要進行延長。
當前的失業救濟政策將在本月到期，但國會尚未就新的支持舉措達成一致。白宮和參議院共和黨在上週末就推進此事達成一致，能否為眾議院民主黨接受還有待觀察。
新冠疫情最初幾個月，美國小型企業直接倒閉的數字相對溫和，不過隨著帳上現金逐漸減少、聯邦政府補助到期、以及疫情再度升溫，未來幾個月的前景越來越黯淡。
全美獨立企業聯盟的月度調查顯示，7月初23%的受訪者表示，“在當前經濟形勢下，”他們將在六個月內破產。近期其他調查現實，越來越多的小型企業家預計，經濟衰退將耗盡他們的財力。
在過去美元能夠從貿易紛爭中獲益，但現在涉及的不只是貿易紛爭，美國國內的經濟增長根基面臨動搖，黃金就成為了避險買盤當仁不讓的選擇。
