7月15日，現貨黃金沖高回落，由於有消息傳出疫苗的研究取得緊張，以美股為首的全球股市低位反彈，但美國多個州的病例創新高，美聯儲對經濟復蘇的擔憂進一步加深，限制金價下跌空間，同時美聯儲官員表示美國經濟復蘇的速度將慢於市場預期，二次感染可能加劇疫情對經濟的打擊。

最近幾天，美聯儲政策制定者變得更加悲觀，紛紛重新調整對未來復蘇的預期，並警告稱，就業增長等經濟數據最近的改善跡象可能只是曇花一現。多位美聯儲官員週二警告稱，美國經濟復蘇速度將慢於預期，因全美新病例激增，且大範圍第二波感染，可能加劇疫情對經濟的打擊。
美聯儲在6月政策會議上對經濟增長的預測基本未考慮出現第二波感染的可能性。疫情未能在美國得到迅速控制，反而愈演愈烈，消費者信心面臨新的打擊，美聯儲對經濟復蘇路徑的判斷基本落空，新的刺激方案呼之欲出。除了黃金等少數避險資產，投資者很難有更多選項。
