7月9日，現貨黃金在千八關口徘徊，而美元指數則錄得近一個月的新低，由於美國新增病例創全球新吉利，美聯儲官員對美國經濟復蘇持懷疑態度，打壓美元走低。同時全球風險資產大漲，降低美元吸引力，加上特朗普遭到司法起訴，加劇了市場的不確定性。
隨著中國經濟復蘇的跡象越來越多，各類投資人增持增持中國股票的頭寸。中國股市延續近期漲勢，滬深300指數創2015年6月25日以來的逾五年新高至4854.12點，上證綜指也刷新2018年2月5日以來高位至3456.97點。兩大指數本月累計漲幅近16%。
美聯儲多名官員週三發表講話，暗示5月和6月就業、零售銷售和其他一些活動指標看似快速反彈的局面可能不會持續。他們擔心，如果美國各州因為疫情反復而撤銷經濟重啟計畫，這些漲勢可能很快蒸發。
美國週三新增超過6萬個感染新冠病毒病例，創下全球各國單日新增病例最高紀錄。週三也是美國連續第二天單日死亡人數超過900人，並且是6月初以來的最高水準。美國總計已有近306萬人染疫，逾13.2萬人死於新冠病毒。除了佛羅里達州新增近1萬例之外，德克薩斯州增加超過9500例，加利福尼亞州超過8500例。加州與德州死於新冠病毒的人數也分別創下單日新高。
美國哈佛大學和麻省理工學院週三起訴特朗普政府，尋求阻止特朗普政府關於留學生的新規。根據該新規，如果國際留學生所在的大學因為疫情只提供線上課程，那麼這些留學生必須離開美國。這使得那些在新冠疫情期間努力重新開放的學校可能財務更加吃緊。
一些院校和社區能強烈感受到外籍留學生對經濟的貢獻，美國的國際學生支付的學費通常高於當地學生，外國學生還需繳納額外費用，支撐著當地房地產市場和一些就業。
當前正值美國新冠疫情捲土重來，美國政府應對疫情不力招致批評之際，在距離大選已經不到4個月的時候，總統特朗普面臨司法起訴，已經下降的民調支持率料進一步走低，黃金開啟的這一輪新漲勢將得到鞏固。
