6月17日，現貨黃金再次走弱，由於美國5月零售資料好於預期，同時疫苗試驗傳來好消息，對避險情緒造成一定打壓，但是美國疫情的加速反彈，讓市場氣氛則繼續惡化美元流動性預期，同時美元指數進一步反彈利空金價。
週二(6月12日)宣佈的藥物試驗結果顯示，地塞米松可令住院的新冠肺炎重症患者的死亡率降低約三分之一。科學家稱之為對抗新冠肺炎大流行中的“重大突破”。
美聯儲主席鮑威爾週二在國會開始為期兩天的聽證會時表示，近期出現的經濟好轉跡象令人鼓舞，包括就業意外增加和上月零售銷售創紀錄增長。但他也強調，在美國民眾確信新冠病毒疫情已經得到控制之前，美國經濟不會全面復蘇。
經濟復蘇前景仍然難以確定。隨著美國多數州逐步重啟經濟，週二有六個州新增新冠病例數觸及紀錄高位，其中包括人口眾多的德克薩斯州和佛羅里達州。
許多州的醫療官員把病例激增歸因於商業重啟以及5月末陣亡將士紀念日期間的週末集會。許多州也在為抗議活動可能導致病例激增做準備。美國已有逾213萬人感染新冠病毒，近11.7萬人因此喪生，是迄今全球最嚴重的國家。
美聯儲上周明確表示，計畫實施非常規刺激措施長達數年時間。但其在向國會提交的半年度報告中警告稱，預計家庭和企業將遭受“持續的脆弱性”。
目前美國正努力採取措施，以求在各州和地方確診病例仍在大幅增加，且短期內疫苗還沒有指望的情況下全面重啟經濟。國會迄今已撥款近3萬億美元用於金融救助。與此同時，美聯儲已承諾無限制購債，向市場提供數萬億美元的貸款。
週二晚些時候，美聯儲副主席克拉裡達(Richard Clarida)明確表示，美聯儲擔心的不僅僅是勞動力市場。他在為紐約外交政策協會準備的講話中說，在經濟衰退開始時就已經很低的通脹預期，現在“有可能低於”美聯儲2%的目標。他說:“我將優先宣導既能實現就業最大化，又能良好錨定通脹預期的政策。”
IMF將於6月24日更新其“全球經濟展望”報告。IMF或預測，2020年全球經濟萎縮程度將比之前預計的更為嚴重，並認為復蘇道路存在“嚴重不確定性”。
