5月7日，現貨黃金出現反彈，收復上日的跌幅，雖然中國4月貿易帳好於預期，但美國失業人數的持續暴增也讓市場對經濟復蘇抱有較大悲觀。加上歐洲央行的經濟刺激計畫受到司法阻礙，歐元處於若是低位，也支撐了美元的高位維持。
中國4月出口強於預期，市場寄希望於中國經濟能夠迅速反彈，並幫助全球增長從冠狀病毒引起的衝擊中復蘇。但鑒於全球貿易呈現新的緊張態勢，市場仍普遍保持謹慎。
分析師表示：“我們看到上個月(中旬以來)避險交易有所減少，但市場樂觀情緒可能不會持續太久。”他暗示，在全球解除為應對疫情而出臺的封控措施之後，即便社會運行全面正常化，人們會發現全球宏觀環境依然很惡劣。
截至5月2日當周，美國初請失業金人數錄得316.90萬，儘管連續5周下降，但高於預期的300萬，且仍舊處於歷史高位。上日公佈的美國4月民間就業崗位減少2023.6萬個，創下紀錄降幅。
特朗普稱，白宮可能在下週一之前增派兩到三人進入3月份組建疫情工作小組，主要負責經濟重啟工作。該白宮任務小組迄今為止的成員包括專注于抗疫的醫學專家，其中一些專家有時提出的指引與特朗普相悖，包括有關何時可放鬆限制。
特朗普政府和兩黨一些州長都強調，他們在讓美國經濟恢復運行方面所面臨的政治和社會壓力。美國超過7.4萬人死於新冠疫情，近126萬人感染。自疫情大流行開始導致美國全國各地企業倒閉以來，六周的失業總人數已超過3000萬。
儘管會產生包括拿著納稅人的錢冒險、讓各國政府依賴央行資金等“負面影響”，但歐洲央行決策者似乎無意妥協，他們週二重申將“採取一切必要措施”來提振歐元區通脹，並“觸及所有轄區”。
國際貨幣基金組織(IMF)表示，世界各國應該將這次新冠病毒大流行作為一次契機，利用低利率環境對公共基礎設施等項目進行投資，長期低利率為全球優質公共投資促進增長提供了機會。
