美國總統特朗普希望在2020年簽署另一項貿易協定，如果特朗普能夠在本月內訪問印度，那和印度就能大概率達成貿易協定，在和印度你儂我儂之際，特朗普卻將貿易關稅的矛頭指向了歐盟。
儘管進行了多次嘗試，但兩國貿易團隊在過去18個月裡在華盛頓、新德里和紐約舉行的無數次會議上難以取得一致意見，沒有取得任何結果。
顯然最終達成了共識的貿易協定將成為市場主要焦點。專家們表示，貿易協定的框架，以及能否稱之為貿易協定，將取決於美國貿易代表萊特希澤這個星期訪問印度的結果。歐亞集團分析師Akhil Bery表示，國防、能源、醫療設備和農業都在討論之列。
作為購買24架“海鷹”(Seahawk)直升機的交換條件，美國可能會取消對部分美國出口產品的關稅。布蘭克表示，主要成果可能包括印度宣佈購買美國軍事硬體，特別是價值26億美元的24架“海鷹”(MH-60R)直升機。作為回報，美國可能宣佈對去年徵收關稅的2000種產品中的部分產品實行一年(或更長時間)的免稅優惠。
美國政府去年5月取消印度的特殊貿易地位後，美國和印度之間的緊張關係加劇。印度的特殊貿易地位使這個盟國可以免稅獲得價值56億美元的出口產品。作為回應，印度宣佈對包括蘋果和杏仁在內的28種美國商品徵收報復性關稅。
據“德國之聲”報導，特朗普指責歐盟對美國商品設置了“難以置信”的壁壘，表示“現在是時候與歐盟嚴肅談判了”。德國《焦點》週刊評論稱，在美國大選來臨之際，歐盟已處於特朗普貿易戰的“靶心”。
“德國之聲”稱，特朗普表示，不想在同一時間和各國進行貿易談判。在美國和中國達成第一階段經貿協議，並與加拿大和墨西哥重新談判敲定北美自貿協定後，這位奉行“美國優先”的總統將貿易戰矛頭對準歐洲盟友。彭博社此前援引消息人士的話稱，如果美方認定歐盟妥協不夠，美國貿易代表萊特希澤可能最早本月中旬宣佈“輪番報復”措施，定期調整加征關稅的歐盟輸美商品門類。
