2月5日，現貨黃金創下近日最新低位，原因在於亞歐股市的堅挺以及市場預計公共衛生事件將得到遏制，但市場的整體信心仍保持謹慎，美國企業的投資信心比較脆弱，美國總統特朗普試圖在貿易領域開倒車。
股市和風險資產上漲，因為事態惡化趨勢有望得到遏制。中國央行向金融體系注資數萬億元人民幣，投資者近期湧向安全資產的趨勢得到部分扭轉，黃金盤中創下1月21日以來新低1547.57美元/盎司。
美國經濟擴張已經創紀錄地延續到了第11個年頭，對於這一點，美國總統特朗普在週二向國會發表的國情咨文中也是大書特書，討論了他取得的一些無可爭議的積極成果。
特朗普在講話中花費許多篇幅強調美國經濟的強勁，以及他為此而取得的成就，比如美中第一階段貿易協定和美墨加協定(USMCA)，失業率處於50年來的最低水準，較低技能工作的薪資正在上漲。
美國12月工廠新訂單創下近一年半以來最大增幅，受國防飛機需求強勁提振，但企業設備支出持續疲弱，顯示製造業大幅反彈的空間有限。
企業投資的低迷人氣可能會因波音上月暫停其陷入困境的737 MAX客機的生產而加劇。波音737 MAX客機發生兩起空難後於去年3月停飛。
2019年全年，工廠訂單下降0.6%。持續18個月的中美貿易對峙削弱企業信心，降低資本支出。企業投資在第四季錄得連續第三個季度萎縮，這是2009年以來持續時間最長的一次萎縮。
世界貿易組織(WTO)總幹事阿澤維多(Roberto Azevedo)週二表示，貿易並非世界各地決定匯率的主要因素，WTO缺乏解決此一問題的專業能力。
美國政府挑起的貿易衝突帶來了不確定性，但並未明顯縮小美國貿易逆差。特朗普企圖通過打匯率牌來消除貿易逆差，只會竹籃打水一場空，並導致全球各地經濟放緩，放大業已存在的恐慌情緒，受益的只會是黃金等避險資產。
