黄金期货保证金交易以美国纽约商品交易所和纽约商业交易所为代表，有固定的交易场所，其交易标的不是伦敦金本身，而是标准化的黄金买卖合约，约定交易双方在未来某个特定时间以约定价格进行黄金实物交割。
上海黄金交易所推出的黄金延期交收交易是以保证金的形式来进行交易的，但是这种保证金交易仅针对其会员。
黄金延期交收交易与伦敦现货保证金交易和美国期货保证金交易都不一样，它是一种黄金现货交易。与伦敦现货市场不同的是，它有固定的交易场所，不仅仅充当投资者的交易媒介，撮合投资者之间进行交易，交易所自身不参与黄金买卖。与美国期货市场不同的是，美国黄金期货的交易标的物是标准化的黄金买卖合约，而上海黄金交易所的黄金延期交收是一种黄金现货交易。
