话说一天早上有只鸭子在海边沙滩上散步，突然看见海鸥在大海上猎食，海鸥这时正滑翔接近海面，一瞬间就把浮出水面的鱼叼出来。鸭子看见了觉得这个捕鱼方法又帅又高效，就开始模仿着学了起来。
可惜，鸭子打算学着海鸥从高处滑翔到海面，结果发现自己根本飞不起来，跳出去一瞬间就扑通掉地上了，鱼没抓着还吃了一嘴沙子。摔了个大跟头的鸭子就去问海鸥：“大家都是鸟类，为什么你能在海面上滑翔飞行抓鱼而我做不到？”
海鸥反问它：“那你会飞吗？”
“不会。”
“你有尖锐有力的喙吗？”
“没有。”
“那你还是按你妈妈教你的抓鱼方法去办吧，这样你才能吃上鱼。”
最后，鸭子还是只能按回自己原先的捕鱼方法，在河边抓小鱼苗，才发现原来这才是最适合自己的捕鱼方法。
