纽约商业交易所（NYMEX）5月原油期货3月24日上涨0.14美元或0.1%成为每桶99.60美元，因德州的原油泄漏事故导致航道关闭，欧洲ICE期货交易所（ICE期货Europe）5月布兰特原油上涨0.36美元或0.3%成为每桶107.28美元。两者的价差由前一交易日的7.46美元扩大至7.68美元。分析师称，德州休斯顿航道的关闭可能持续整周，对原油价格具有支撑，因为运输被阻碍。美国有10%的原油炼油产能是在这条航道附近的，航道附近是好几英里连绵不断的大规模石油工业基础设施。此外，分析师预计美国3月21日当周原油库存将增加280万桶，汽油库存将减少160万桶，蒸馏油库存将减少130万桶。
法国巴黎银行（BNP Paribas）周一（3月24日）在报告中将2014年西德州原油价格预估从此前的93美元/桶上调至98美元/桶，因在美国炼油厂活动放缓以及库存持续增加的大环境下，西德州原油价格仍表现稳健。另一方面，库欣地区原油库存持续减少，相信未来西德州原油还能从中继续获得支撑。该行同时维持2014年布兰特原油价格预估在107美元/桶不变。
大陆国土资源部24日表示，页岩气勘查开发进展顺利，截至2013年累计完成页岩气钻井285口、2013年页岩气产量达2亿立方米。大陆国土资源部指出，2013年第二次页岩气探矿权招标的16家得标企业已全面展开对19个招标区块的页岩气勘查工作。贝克休斯的数据显示，上周美国石油探勘井数量较前周增加12座至1,473座，连续第3周创下自1987年统计以来新高；天然气探勘井数量较前周减少18座至326座，其他探勘井（主要用于地热能源）数量较前周持平为4座。就技术分类，美国主要用于探勘页岩油与页岩气的水平探勘井数量较前周减少6座至1,206座，垂直探勘井较前周减少9座至384座，定向井较前周增加9座至213座。就地域来看，美国陆上探勘井较前周减少7座至1,730座，海上探勘井较前周增加1座至55座，内陆水域的探勘井较前周持平为18座。在美国最大产油州德州，油气探勘井数量减少10座至858座；在德州的几个主要产地当中，二迭纪盆地（Permian Basin）的油气探勘井数量较前周减少1座至513座，巴纳特页岩（Barnett）较前周减少1座至25座，花岗岩冲积页岩（Granite洗）较前周增加2座至54座，鹰堡页岩（鹰Ford）较前周减少5座至219座。凭借页岩油成为美国第二大产油州的北达科他州威利斯顿盆地（巴肯页岩）油气探勘井数量较前周增加2座至186座。此外，最大页岩气产地的马赛勒斯页岩（Marcellus）油气探勘井数量较前周持平为78座。
