美国劳工部3月20日公布，经季节调整后，截至3月15日为止当周，首次申请失业救济金人数较前周增加5,000人至320,000人。根据彭博社的调查，经济学家的预估值为增加至32.2万人。上周首次申请失业救济金人数的4周移动平均值较前周减少3,500人至327,000人，创去年11月底以来的近4个月新低。
截至3月8日为止当周，经季节调整后，连续申请失业救济金人数较前一周的修正值增加41,000人至2,889,000人。当周连续申请失业救济金人数的4周移动平均值较前一周的修正值减少16,750人至2,897,250人。截至3月8日为止当周，经过季节性因素调整后的保险失业率较前周持平为2.2%。
彭博社报导，Maria Fiorini Ramirez Inc.首席美国经济学家Joshua Shapiro表示，多数的讯号显示美国就业市场逐渐改善当中。美国联准会周三宣布不再将失业率作为衡量经济表现的决定性标准，并透露购债计划今年秋天结束后6个月可能开始升息。Investec外汇专家Jon Pryor称这是联储局数月以来最为鹰派的声明。另一方面，分析师也认为联储局的鹰派声明透露对美国经济复苏的信心。
