美国劳工部12月19日公布，经季节调整后，截至12月14日为止当周，首次申请失业救济金人数较前周修正值增加10,000人至379,000人，创今年三月底以来新高。根据彭博社的调查，经济学家的预估中间值为下滑至33.6万人，预估区间介于31-37.5万人之间。上周首次申请失业救济金人数的4周移动平均值较前周修正值增加13,250人至343,500人。
彭博社报导，上周初领失业金人数意外增加，部分反映年底假期因素对季节调整数据造成的波动。穆迪分析公司资深经济学家Ryan Sweet指出，接近年底初领失业金人数的波动通常较大，因此无需对每周的变动过度解读，裁员人数已经较低对就业市场来说是利好因素。美国11月失业率甫创下三年新低的7.0%，联储局前日则预估至明年底失业率可望降至6.5%。
截至12月7日为止当周，经季节调整后，连续申请失业救济金人数较前一周的修正值增加94,000人至2,884,000人。当周连续申请失业救济金人数的4周移动平均值较前一周的修正值增加4,250人至2,799,000人。截至12月7日为止当周，经过季节性因素调整后的保险失业率较前周增加0.1个百分点成为2.2%。
