6月5日晚，美国劳工部公布了美国5月非农数据，数据显示，就业人口增加250万，平均薪资年率明显增加，失业率有所降低。市场分析，5月非农数据好于预期，表明失业情况在4月底已经见顶了。
美国4月季调后非农就业人口变动修正为减少2068.7万，初值减少2053.7万。4月私营企业非农就业人数变动修正为减少1972.4万，初值减少1955.7万；4月季调后制造业就业人口变动修正为减少132.4万，初值减少133万；4月平均每小时工资月率修正为4.7%，初值4.7%；4月平均每小时工资年率修正为8.0%，初值7.9%。
尽管当前的失业人数仍旧处于令人惊讶的高位，但最近的数据显示，劳动力市场的至暗时刻已经过去，重返岗位的人数可能也比此前预期的要多。当前美国经济衰退的特点是，称是“暂时性失业”的失业人数大幅增加。但究竟有多少临时性失业变成永久性失业仍是一个需要回答的关键问题。
美国总统特朗普表示，就业报告表现“真的很好”，30多年以来从未看到过这样的数字。
考虑到劳工部公布的所有申请失业救济人数中都有明显的恶化迹象，家庭调查就业率的反弹尤其令人惊讶。从4月份的封锁风暴中，5月份的反弹速度快于预期，这本身并不意味着复苏将是v型的，但会排除对第二季度GDP收缩的低端预期。
