2月28日，美工公布了1月PCE物价指数，数据不及市场预期，而且其他同步公布的数据也大部分不急市场预期，在美国数据公布后，金价出现短线的小幅度上涨，而加拿大公布的GDP季调后数据则超出预期。
具体数据显示，美国1月PCE物价指数年率实际公布1.7%，预期1.8%，前值1.6%。美国1月核心PCE物价指数年率实际公布1.6%，预期1.7%，前值1.6%。
财经网站Forexlive评美国1月核心PCE数据指出，通胀略低于预期，收入超过预期。第四季度消费者支出疲弱，这种情况延续到了第一季度，尽管收入有所增加。总体而言，今年年初美国经济形势稳定，但新冠病毒是一种可能改变一切的“黑天鹅”。
当前通胀数据确实还相当靓丽，但是有分析指出，这些指标并不能反映当前的通胀情况，分析师建议美联储应当制定新的通胀目标。
美国1月个人支出增幅不及预期，仅录得0.2%，因天气转暖减少了取暖需求，服装店销售额也相应减少。消费动能或因新冠病毒疫情的快速蔓延而加剧，引发股市急剧抛售，并导致人们重新担忧经济陷入衰退。
近期加拿大央行给出的市场信号是相对较为乐观的。加拿大央行行长波洛兹称若加拿大没有采取财政措施，利率可能将进一步降低。财政政策对经济而言非常重要。
波洛兹认为，降息可能提高增加债务水平的风险。金融体系的脆弱性可能损害未来经济，宏观审慎规则有助于控制债务风险。不过，在公共卫生安全问题蔓延的背景之下市场也开始认为加拿大央行可能会出现被迫降息的情况。
