英国GDP数据表现良好，但英镑的上行空间有限

2月11日，英镑兑美元有所走高，但由于英国和欧盟在协商上没有达成一致，但是英国第四季度的GDP数据表示英国经济并没有陷入停滞，但市场分析表示，英国和欧盟的谈判将充满困难。
英国第四季度GDP年率与第三季度持平，季率符合预期，且在11月出现惊人的月度负增长之后，12月的反弹幅度比预期更为乐观。尽管消费者支出只增长了0.1%，这是2015年底以来最低的增长率，占主导地位的服务业增长放缓。商业投资下降1%，为2016年底以来最大降幅。但能录得此数据也表明，英国去年第四季度经济并未陷入停滞。
英国较为乐观的GDP数据说明在约翰逊赢得大选后，英国经济有所回升，这从贸易账远超预期中也可以看出，尽管欧英的贸易谈判并没有明显进展。
英国从1月31日起不再是欧盟的正式成员，但它还没有确定与其他27个欧盟国家未来的贸易安排。据报道，一份被长镜头相机捕捉到的谈判文件显示，政府希望为其金融业获得“全面、永久的等价决策”。
这将意味着，如果英国遵循与欧盟相同的监管规则，欧盟将在特定活动中给予市场准入。金融服务业约占英国的7%英国议会的一份报告显示，中国在2018年的总产出将超过美国。这些公司目前被允许在欧盟各国自由运营，比如，总部位于英国的美国公司可以向总部位于欧盟的公司出售金融产品。然而，欧盟已经表示，如果这种情况继续下去，将取决于英国是否选择遵循欧洲的标准。
英国财政大臣Sajid Javid表示，英国政府将不再遵守欧盟针对金融服务行业的规则，但希望就银行业达成“持久”的贸易关系。英国财政部正在就与欧盟的贸易谈判起草一份详细的计划。Javid坚称英国将实行与欧盟不同的规定。
欧盟委员会主席冯德莱恩表示，欧盟已经准备好和英国讨论所有的贸易协定模式。澳大利亚与欧盟-英国关系的协定意味着基本的世贸组织条款。
