眼下美国国会正就有关债务上限的问题僵持不下，导致美国财政部周四(10月22日)推迟一项例行国债标售，这或许意味着美国再次面临数周之后可能债务违约的境况。
奥巴马政府上周警告称，如果美国国会不上调负债上限，则联邦政府不晚于11月3日将不得不停止举债。很多保守派共和党议员表示，如果没有长期削减赤字的计划，则反对上调债务上限。
美国财政部周四发表声明称，取消原定于10月27日举行的两年期国债标售，因为到11月2日结算时，财政部可能已无权举债。同时，财政部还呼吁国会议员停止将债务上限作为政治问题对待。
美国在2011和2013年都曾与无力偿债擦肩而过，但本周四是2004年以来首次因债务上限问题取消国债标售。
目前美国国会因共和党的领导人真空问题而处于混乱局面。众议院议长博纳打算离职，但其他共和党议员在继任者问题上难以达成共识，这使得债务上限协商更加复杂。
