黄金生产行业在金价下跌后出现了勘探开支的大幅下降，从2011年至今，这方面开支的削减是非常明显。全球最大的八大黄金生产商削减了差不多36.5%的勘探开支，自2011年以来，这些矿企的勘探开支减少了6.227亿美元。
另外，黄金矿藏在消失。在7家称黄金矿藏减少的矿企中，消失的黄金矿藏总共4710万盎司，超过了全球每年黄金矿产量的一半。
