股票挂单指的是在股票交易时把所要买进和卖出的股票的名称、数量、价格填写后提交给交易系统成交。而股票挂单是有时间限制，具体有效地时间如下：
（1）提前一个交易日挂单
一般证券公司都允许提前在前一天晚上委托的明天交易的挂单的。证券公司会在当天交易清算结束后就接受下一个交易的委托挂单的，一般当天交易清算完毕的时间是在晚上的9点半以后。
（2）在节假日的前一个交易日不接受挂单
投资者需要注意的是，每逢周六周日或节假日前的最后一个交易日之前，证券公司不一定会接受相关的股票挂单，也就是说周五晚上下周一开盘的挂单不一定会接受的，这些挂单有时候要到周一早上才能委托挂单的。主要原因是相关的周六周日和节假日期间股市不开盘时证券公司很多时候会进行系统测试，为了防止试数据的混乱一般不受相关的委托挂单，以防止测试数据与真实的委托数据之间产生混乱。
另外，在贵金属投资中也牵涉到“挂单交易”的说法。在现货黄金交易中，“挂单交易”指的是由客户在MT4平台上指定交易手数、进场价位和止盈止损价格后，一旦报价达到或优于客户指定的价格，系统即执行客户的指令，成交价格为客户所设置的目标价位。而贵金属中挂单交易的有效时间又是如何的呢？如下：
若是该现货黄金或是白银交易挂单交易在周六凌晨3:00（夏令时）或是周六凌晨4:00（夏令时）前的交易日内未能触发成交，则系统在收盘时间点自动将其撤销。
