交易商BullionVault的黄金投资者指数显示，刚刚过去的8月中，该指数为51.7，距离正好平衡，也就是净买家和净卖家数量一致的50相距非常近。
BullionVault是全球最大在线黄金交易商，其研究主管认为，地缘政治问题为黄金所带来的避险需求几乎已经不存在了。GII指数曾经在2011年9月达到顶峰的71.7，今年7月该指数读数从6月的51.2上升到为51.9，是今年2月以来的首次上升，但8月再度回落，至51.7。也就是说BullionVault上实物黄金的买家只比卖家多出了一点点。
BullionVault的数据显示，该平台上的用户连续第三个月黄金总持有量增加，这是2013年以来持续最长的一次。不过，8月BullionVault用户总增持的黄金量仅仅为50公斤，但也足以使得该机构总持有黄金量达到最高的33.1吨。正如今年6月和7月一样，大买家在领导着投资者们的增持。
刚刚过去的8月可以说是黄金交易非常消极的一个月，整月金价在5年最窄幅的波动区间内，上下价差仅仅40美元。8月的黄金均价为1296美元/盎司，基本上和过去12个月的1297美元/盎司完全一致。黄金未平仓合约降至5年低点。黄金ETF流出，SPDR黄金基金在8月减持了6吨，总持有量跌到795吨，也就是和1月时一致的5年低点。
在全球各地的地域争端下，黄金这样的表现很大程度是受到美元的影响，8月金价几乎收平，但以欧元计则上涨了1.6%，以英镑计则上涨了1.8%。
