印度黄金行业将在下周一进行抗议罢工

印度的黄金行业计划在下周一进行一个24小时的罢工以抗议政府的黄金进口限制。印度整个黄金行业价值约410亿美元。
印度黄金及珠宝商协会(The India Bullion and Jewellers’ Association)要求黄金交易商、珠宝商和批发商等在3月10日当天关闭，抗议政府没收有走私嫌疑的黄金，预期到时将有50万家商店参与。
2013年，为了控制印度的经常账户赤字，印度政府将黄金进口关税从4%上调到10%。和另一大黄金消费国中国不同，中国本身是黄金生产大国但印度本身 却并不生产很多黄金，因此对进口的限制极大影响了其国内供应。这带来了印度国内黄金市场的供应短缺，也带来了大量的黄金走私行为。
在2012年末印度的经常账户赤字达到创纪录的377亿美元，而黄金在2012年是印度进口最多的商品，进口量价值达500亿美元。
汇丰银行(HSBC)贵金属分析师James Steel说：“我们认为任何可能的对黄金进口限制的放松都比较可能出现在今年四五月的大选后而不是大选前。可能会有适度放松的政策被宣布。”
此次罢工将不是印度黄金行业的第一次罢工，在2012年3月印度的黄金珠宝商曾罢工超过两个星期，当时抗议的是当时印度政府宣布对不知名品牌金饰征税0.3%，以及上调黄金进口关税至4%，随后印度财政部长承诺表示将考虑取消对黄金珠宝行业征收新税后罢工结束。
