土耳其政府涉嫌大量黄金换取石油

2011年，土耳其出口了价值15亿美元的黄金，进口了62亿美元的黄金，到2012年，该国黄金出口达到了133亿美元，进口黄金76亿美元。
本年度，由于美国对伊朗的制裁，土耳其无法以外汇支付从伊朗购买的天然气，因此土耳其换衣土耳其里拉支付，然后伊朗再以里拉在土耳其购买黄金，成功绕过了美国的制裁。而土耳其的黄金进口需要从瑞士引入，中间也建立起一个中转站。
在过去四年中，土耳其的黄金进口一共达到了270亿美元，进口则达到180亿美元，其中80亿出口到伊朗，出口到阿联酋的则为60亿美元，而这60亿美元的黄金事实上的目的地也是伊朗。那么也就是总共有约价值150亿美元的伊朗天然气被以这样的方式支付。这其中大部分黄金采购自瑞士。土耳其利用漏洞对伊朗进行的黄金换原油交易使得大量土耳其人参与到黄金交易中。
在2010年，土耳其黄金储备总共价值约20亿里拉，而到今年10月底，这一数字变成了218亿里拉。3年前其银行存款中只有0.3%是黄金，而到今年10月，这一比例达到了2.5%。
