五矿资源(01208)公布，由于可采储量耗尽及利润率降低，其已决定于十二月起停止其老挝Sepon矿山的黄金开采及生产。基于此决定，黄金选矿厂将进入保养和维护状态，Sepon运营将集中于铜生产。
公司指，为使 LXML 运营业务能够保持其稳健贡献，停止 Sepon 黄金运营的决定是必要的。Sepon 氧化金可采储量已于一段时间前耗尽，按照先前的预测生产应该于2011年停止。较高的剥采比例与较弱的黄金价格结合造成生产成本增加，这表示公司于 Sepon 生产黄金已经不具经济效益。尽管一些固定成本能够在铜和黄金生产之间分摊，上半年之黄金生产 C1成本已自2012年翻倍至1,880 美元/盎司，而上半年末之黄金价格约为1,198美元/盎司。
