6月5日晚，美國5月非農就業資料公佈，資料結果超於市場預期，資料意外想好，在資料公佈後，現貨黃金出現短線激烈下挫，而美元指數則急速沖高，市場認為非農資料的向好表明了經濟復蘇即將來臨。
具體資料顯示，美國5月非農就業人口意外大增250.9萬人，預期值減少750萬，前值從初值減少2053.7萬修正為減少2068.7萬。
美國5月失業率降至13.30%，預期值和前值分別為19.10%和14.70%；5月平均時薪年率降至6.70%，前值和預期值分別為7.90%和8.50%。
隨著經濟重啟，低薪崗位逐步回歸市場，平均小時薪資走低。5月份下半月企業重啟，消費者信心、製造業和服務業也在企穩，這是最糟糕時期已經結束的跡象。
這似乎表明，疫情帶來的衰退可能已經結束。這肯定會對政治辯論產生影響。儘管政府工作崗位的持續下降表明對州和地方政府的支持仍有很大的需求，但該報告認為，出臺另一項大規模刺激計畫的緊迫性有所降低。美聯儲暫時按部不動，但政策委員會可能需要修改對下周會議的預估。不過，任何人都沒有理由認為他們會在今年或明年加息。

儘管這次衝擊導致失業率飆升，但大多數美國民眾在封鎖期間要麼在家辦公，要麼依靠政府直接提供的財政補助度日。由於鮮有商品及服務可供購買，因此他們的儲蓄猛增。消費是美國經濟增長的最大引擎，占GDP的70%左右。儲蓄習慣改變可以輕易抵消任何新的刺激措施。
一些美國家庭的一周收入甚至出現暫時性的增長，因為他們申請獲得的每週1000美元失業救濟金，比其半數全薪還要高。他們還可以從政府那裡領到1200美元一次性補助。
美聯儲週四(6月4日)公佈的資料顯示，截至6月3日，美聯儲資產負債表規模已達7.21萬億美元，一周前為7.15萬億美元；美聯儲所持的美債規模升至4.13萬億美元，一周前為4.11萬億美元；美聯儲所持的企業債交易所交易基金(ETF)猛增至362億美元，一周前為349億美元。
