据彭博周二（6月7日）报道，由于今年至5月金价上涨近22%，中国作为世界最大的黄金生产和消费国5月停止了黄金储备的购买。
由于美联储加息预期犹存，黄金在今年开始大涨之后，5月波动剧烈，短期内从1300高位下跌至1200以下，今年总体上涨了17%。
凯投宏观商品经济学家Simona Gambarini称“对一个月的数据不宜过分解读，但高价无疑对累积购买的下降起了一定作用。储备在美元之外的多样化仍然很强劲。现在全球近三分之一的政府债券是负收益，黄金仍是有价值的备选资产。”
世界黄金协会3月31日的报告称，由于很多国家实施负利率，各国央行和投资者对黄金的需求仍然很高。各国今年的购买量有可能在400-600吨之间，2015年为566.3吨。
