具体数据显示，美国1月Markit制造业PMI终值为52.4，初值为52.7，12月终值为51.2。该指数高于50表明经济活动扩张。
制造业采购经理人指数反映了美国制造业的综合发展状况。因制造业在美国的GDP中占有较大比重，所以制造业采购经理人指数也是评估美国商业环境和整体经济状况的重要指标。
其他数据显示，1月产出分项指数终值为53.2，初值为54.0，12月终值为52.5。1月就业分项指数终值为52.8，初值为52.6，12月终值为53.1。
Markit首席经济学家威廉姆森点评称，尽管数据小幅提升，但美国1月Markit制造业PMI数据录得过去两年来最差水平，表明制造业继续面临困境；订单增速提振，这是令人振奋的；但是招聘依旧疲软，表明企业对商业前景依旧谨慎，不愿意扩大产能；美国制造业继续受到全球需求疲软、美元走强、能源业投资减少和金融市场不稳定性增加的影响而承压。
