据中国地震台网监测显示：北京时间1月14日11时25分，日本北海道地区附近（北纬41.96度，东经143.15度）发生6.9级左右地震，震源深度50公里。
受此影响，日本股市大跌，日经225指数一度跌至4.1%，跌破17000点整数关，最低至16944点；日本东证指数下跌3,9%。据日本NHK报道：日本的东北电力公司称Onagawa核电厂未受到地震影响。
如果该核电厂一旦遇险，后果将不堪设想，业内人士表示。
此次地震加剧了市场的担忧和恐慌。在亚洲外汇市场，亚洲以外的宏观基金也持续抛售美元/日元。卖单规模为5000万到1亿美元，
据悉，中国央行在今早进行了1,600亿元人民币7天期逆回购操作，并且上调人民币中间价，平复了市场的恐慌情绪。
市场人士分析：避险情绪的蔓延推动了日元上涨。由于震后，大量资金要回流到日元中，特别是保险赔付和日本政府的救市行为，会使得日元在近期升值。
截止北京时间15:37，美元/日元扩大涨势，刷新日内高位118.16。
