英国央行行长卡尼周四（10月9日）表示，英国央行没必要等美国先加息，然而再上调其利率。
卡尼在IMF年会上表示，美联储确切的加息时间，对英国央行升息的行动，不是决定性的。
英国央行将负起他们的责任，他们将决定开始货币政策正常化的时间。
卡尼指出，在英国自从采用通胀目标后的五个利率周期以来，英国央行有两次比美联储先采取行动。
他表示，英国央行和美联储面临的相同情况是，在全球疲弱的背景下，本国经济表现强劲，并且这与前景一致，不是确定性，而是有限的和逐步升息的前景。
在被问及英国央行明年之前，不会升息的市场预期是否正确时，他指出，任何说出明确升息时机的人，都是不对的，因为关于升息时机有战略上的考虑。
他表示，他个人曾说过的是，他认为很可能在年底左右升息。
他补充认为，需要出现更多进展，比如经济增长高于趋势，国内成本增加，核心通胀上升等，才有可能的加息的情况。
