德国媒体周四报导称，德国政府正为希腊国家破产“未雨绸缪”。报导并指出，假如希腊破产，德国政府将施行资本管制，并讨论了资本减记问题。
事实上，这并非今年首次出现这样的消息。有德国媒体1月3日援引不知名德国政府官员的消息表示，德国总理默克尔及其领导的政府已做好万全应对措施，以应对希腊可能再度爆发退欧风险的状况。
德国央行行长魏德曼周四也发出警告称，为避免希腊破产甚至可能退出欧元区的时间正在一点点耗尽。
魏德曼在伦敦表示：“大家有很大的决心帮助希腊，但时间正在耗尽，破产的风险与日俱增。”他认为，万一希腊破产并退欧，最大的“输家”就是希腊与希腊人民。
