中国央行周二公布数据显示，今年6月末外汇储备余额为3.69万亿美元。据此测算，今年二季度中国外汇储备减少400亿美元，为连续第四个季度下降，亦为七个季度以来最低水平，创下一年来的最小降幅，这可能表明在中国央行维持人民币兑美元汇率稳定、股市攀升至七年高点之际资本外流有所缓解。
随着中国央行为了稳定本币汇率而买入人民币，中国外汇储备过去四个季度连续萎缩。人民币兑美元过去一年跌0.05%，在新兴市场货币中跌幅最小。
中国一直在抑制人民币汇率波动，以期推广人民币在全球范围的使用并防止资本外流，争取获得国际货币基金组织的储备货币地位。人民币汇率自3月末以来一直维持在6.2兑1美元上下0.35%以内的范围，澳大利亚国民银行称这相当于人民币盯住6.2兑1美元的水平。
