国际货币基金组织(IMF)内部机密文件显示，希腊经济在过去两周银行关门影响之下受到严重打击，未来需要的纾困金额将远超过国际债权人先前预估。
“希腊债务可持续性显着恶化，需要的纾困金额将远超过先前欧洲稳定机制ESM所预估。”
目前这份报告已经送至欧元区各国政府。报告建议应给予希腊30年宽限期偿债，并延后现有债券到期日，否则国际债权人可能必须大幅度减记债务，蒙受巨大损失。
国际货币基金组织在美国东部时间7月13日发表声明， 声明原文： “尚未收到今天到期的希腊欠基金组织的3.6 亿特别提款权(约合4.56 亿欧元)的本金还款。我们已将此事告知我们的执董会。到目前为止,希腊对基金组织的拖欠款共计16 亿特别提款权(约合20 亿欧元)
一家设立在华盛顿的基金，通过路透社，本周二泄露了一份报告称，希腊的公共债务可能相当其国民收入的200%，债务在未来两年内将达到高峰。其风险和实际结果可能会更为暗淡。
华盛顿政治分析人士认为，希腊只有德国和法国政治角逐的一枚棋子。尽管希腊避免了退欧，但整个欧元区还将余波未了。华盛顿著名智库彼得森研究所认为，希腊公投以及整个欧元区领导人的谈判过程，已经损伤到了欧元区和欧洲经济。同时，彼得森经济学家认为，希腊的痛苦大部分是自找的。大部分归咎于齐普拉斯政府，他执政后所采取的对抗式的态度，拒绝了遵循欧元区的规则。
