人们越来越乐观地相信，美国经济已经从年初的糟糕表现中潇洒转身，因此本周焦点将转向欧洲，看经济报告能否表明欧元区终于开始摆脱五年来的颓势。
金融危机催生的主权债务危机对欧洲冲击尤甚，自此之后欧元区19国一直是压在全球经济身上的一块巨石。
多数人预测美国联邦储备理事会(美联储)即将在今年稍后升息，为将近10年来首次；而在此时中国经济不再是推动世界经济成长的引擎，巴西等新兴经济体的表现也令人失望。因此，欧洲经济如果能重拾一些活力，不仅对于数年来饱受高失业之苦的欧洲公民很重要，而且对于全球都非常关键。
希腊以经济改革换取纾困资金一事进展缓慢，而政府资金行将告罄。欧元集团财长将在周一开会，再次讨论这一问题。然而决策者已经给未来一周取得重大进展的期望泼了冷水，因此现在市场能够关注的焦点，这使得欧元区及其成员国今年年初经济成长率初值成为关注焦点。
另外似乎有明显迹象表示，欧元区经济表现不仅取得改善，而且远优于美国，这在多少年来还是头一次。美国经济在第一季已几乎铁定小幅萎缩。
路透调查中受访分析师预测，欧元区第一季经济料成长0.5%，甚至比英国还好。英国经济在成长和就业两方面，都一直领先于欧洲的大型经济体。
鉴于欧洲央行在3月才开始实施每月600亿欧元的购债计划，这样的经济成长数据无疑会让一些人更加坚信，央行的刺激政策或许根本没必要。
德国是欧洲最大经济体，也是最反对央行购债政策的成员国之一，该国第一季经济增幅料为0.5%；法国在大型经济体中一直表现滞后，这一次料增长0.4%。一些二线国家如意大利，估计也能取得0.2%的成长。
除了希腊似乎没完没了财政麻烦，欧洲除了大规模货币刺激政策之外还具备许多有利因素，分析师对此似乎没有异议。
