据英国金融时报报道，若本月底前不能与债权人达成协议，希腊就准备债务违约。希腊周一对此予以否认，并称协商还在朝着达成协议“迅速”推进。
金融时报援引知情人士的消息报道，若达不成协议，希腊可能对5月和6月到期的共计25亿欧元IMF贷款不予偿付。希腊总理齐普拉斯办公室则在一份声明中称，“希腊…并未准备债务违约，债权人也是这样的立场。协商正在朝着达成互利协议的方向迅速推进。”
经济学家们预计希腊退出欧元区的可能性在增加，而几年以前，许多人认为这绝对不可能。据瑞士联合银行(UBS)，目前希腊债务违约的可能性只有50%，虽然其分析师表示违约不意味着会直接导致希腊退出欧元区。
